The Extraordinary Within the Ordinary

carsonbshields

Three images from the week of August 29th that probably seem normal, but that I found to be breathtaking.

I found this while walking down the hallway at school and felt like I had stumbled into a film about an artist that has gone through more than they can say. Perhaps it's the perfect combination of clutter amongst the organization, the tree that seems to want a better view of the artwork spread all over the room, or the light cascading in from every angle. I found it to be inspiring.

A photo of my nephew looking up over his shoulder at a restaurant. Again, this is something seemingly ordinary, but there is so much beauty in stillness sometimes. Especially when it is coming from a child, who sees the world in a more beautiful way than I could ever hope to.

A campout that some friends and I decided to go on before school started. It is amazing how invigorating it can be to escape into nature where cell phone service cannot find you. It reminds us of the beauty that is present in every drop of rain, every stone on the ground, and every human being we connect with.

Photo 1: I love the possible stories you found behind this image! Especially the tree peering through the window to get a better view of the art. I do, however, think that the composition could be a little more simple/appealing. Maybe a straight-on shot looking directly at the window? That could give some nice shape to it.

Photo 2: I love this photo. His curious eye looking off screen is grabbing my attention, making me wonder what he's looking at. Keeping him center frame allows for the other background details to be less distracting. The Calvin and Hobbes in the bottom left of frame is an amazing touch. It further adds to your nephew's youthfulness.
