Soft, Low Contrast

"The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack" - The Liars

Soft lighting occurs when light is coming being diffused somehow. Clouds or fog are great ways to diffuse light. The fog was so thick on this mountain that it was also blocking out a ton of light, which creates that low key light, even though this photo was taken in the middle of the day.

Hard, Under

"Pennsylvania Furnace" - Lingua Ignota

Kinda spooky in honor of the spooky season. Hard light occurs when light is coming directly from a single source. Because of it, you are able to see lots of shadows, and all of the wrinkles in my skin. What adds to the spooky feel is that the light is coming from underneath my hand, which creates an unnatural kind of feeling, since usually, light comes from above or at an above angle.

Low key, High contrast

"The Light Pt. II" - BROCKHAMPTON

There are two light sources in this photo, but only one of them is doing a good job at illuminating its surroundings. Because of that, there is a lot of darkness, which is what creates that low key lighting. And since the fall off from the left side of the frame to the right side is so great, we can see that it is high contrast.

Sweet photos. The last one is my favorite. I imagine a really cool scene taking place here. Like somebody waking up in the middle of the night to drink a glass of milk and make some ramen noodles. The hand photo got some nice contrast. Makes you look wrinkly and gross which we all know is not reality. Also the fog is sweet. Nice photograph brother.
