Affinity of Tone

"American Wedding" - Frank Ocean

In this photo of my adorable nephews, we see an example of affinity of tone. The reds, whites, and pinks, all combine to almost camouflage these handsome young men.

Contrast of Tone

"He Has Left Us Alone, But Shafts of Light Still Grace the Corners of Our Rooms" - Silver Mt. Zion

The dreary blues, grays and off-whites are thrown tremendously off course by this beautiful little rainbow prism that graced wall. The contrast causes the colors to pop even more than they would normally.

Non-Coincidence of Tone

"The Mirror" - Andrei Tarkovsky

This beautiful landscape was something I found along the river. It doesn't have a strong subject. You could argue that it is the main strip of algae swaying in the water, or the trimmed branches at the bottom. When I first took this photo, there was a branch on the other side that caught my attention, but when I went to take the picture, the beauty of the moss below the surface of the water was what ended up catching my attention the most.

That last photo is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. It looks almost like a Monet painting. It's also got almost two kinds of non-coincidence with the shadows at the top disguising the algae and the reflections on the bottom doing likewise.

That second one is really beautiful and starts to tell a story, contrasting natural beauty with rigidity of architecture.

Then the first one is really nice. I think the affinity would've come off even stronger if we were closer and more focused on their white shirts to really make the contrast pop, but it's still a great shot.
